We Are "The Open Door Church On The Park"
Where All Are Welcome
Where All Are Welcome
You've found our website. So why not come visit our church and worship with us Sunday mornings at 10:00?
We are a warm and friendly congregation and all are welcome. We are near the Long Island Expressway and Northern State Parkway. See Directions to Roslyn Presbyterian.
The Roslyn Presbyterian Church is located in historic Roslyn, NY, nestled in beautiful Roslyn Pond (Gerry) Park. Established in 1851, it has a strong foundation of nearly 170 years of ministry. The Church building includes the main sanctuary, social hall, kitchen, church offices, classrooms, and a large windowed meeting hall. The Church is wheelchair accessible.
We welcome the Rev. Dr. Marjory J. Roth as our permanent pastor as of October 2020. In 2006 Marjory received her bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of Albany and her Master's of Divinity in 2009 from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School. In 2020 she received her Doctor of Ministry from Lancaster Theological Seminary. She most recently was the Director of the Glenwood Life Center in Glenwood Landing, Long Island. During the year prior to her start, we were fortunate to have Marjory as our Temporary Pulpit Supply Minister.
Our voluntary Church Choir led by the Music Director, Dr. Gary de Sesa, a Juilliard graduate, consists of professional and non-professional singers. Sunday School runs concurrent with church services.
We are a "boutique" church with a relatively small but loving and vibrant congregation. We experience a closeness and personal support that may not be found in a larger congregation.
Roslyn is located on the North Shore of Long Island about 20 miles from Manhattan. We draw members and friends from the diversity of our surrounding communities.
The minister oversees and conducts Church services on Sunday morning from 10:00 a.m. Our Church service is followed by a coffee/fellowship time. The Church is governed by a Session with committees and groups including: Fiscal Management/Property, Worship and Music, Christian Education, Nurture, Stewardship, Growth, Local Causes, Personnel, Nominating, and the Women's Association. Members volunteer to serve in official positions including the Clerk of Session, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Commissioner to Presbytery, and Flower Chairperson.
The Church hosts a number of organizations including Al-Anon, Alcoholics Anonymous, Growing Tree Nursery School, and the Kalam (Taiwanese/Lutheran) Church which holds services on Sunday afternoon. Church activities have included: Easter Hat Contest, Christmas Pageant, collecting Christmas gifts for disadvantaged children, Fall and Summer Church picnics, collection of donations for the Long Island Council of Churches' Food Pantry and other missions, joint Thanksgiving service and dinner with the Kalam church, Mystery night show and dinner, mini-golf outing, and Christmas dinner.
Through the sermons and Church activities our goal is to communicate to people in the surrounding communities the importance of Christian faith in the pursuit of successful personal, professional and business lives. To meet the needs of a broad membership, our services and the music have both contemporary and traditional aspects.
