TOYS FOR MOMMAS HOUSE & GIVING TREE
The Roslyn Presbyterian Church "Women's Circle" got together and spent a morning making 48 Christmas tags that decorate the "Giving Tree" for Mommas House, an organization which provides homes for young mothers ages 17 to 23 years and their babies. The tags are placed on the tree and members and friends of the Roslyn Presbyterian Church take one or more tags, purchase toys for children ages 1 through 10, and label the tags with the appropriate age and gender for each gift. The gifts are then delivered to the three MOMMAS HOUSES. For approximately four years, the young mothers at MOMMAS House continue education or vocational experience interrupted by pregnancy. With guidance and direction, the young mothers can learn to support themselves and their children independently. LONG ISLAND COUNCIL OF CHURCHES EMERGENCY FOOD CENTER DRIVE The Roslyn Presbyterian Church and the Kalam Lutheran Church combined efforts on their joint Thanksgiving Service to help the Long Island Council of Churches Emergency Food Center. Empty shopping bags were placed on the pew seats before service to be taken by parishioners, to fill with non-perishable food items and returned over the next three Sundays. Thanks to Whole Foods of Manhasset and Jericho, and Holiday Farms of Roslyn for donating the very hard-to-come-by shopping bags. |
